Sam (Salish Sea) @16927

"Sam" is believed to be the 2010 calf of Heather (Salish Sea), from naturalist Tasli Shaw. Sam has been observed during the summer months off Port Renfrew, Vancouver Island. Here humpbacks gather in feeding groups known to the locals as the “family”. Named after Sarah and Matt, ocean wildlife guides working off Vancouver Island, who consider Sam and the “family” among their own. This whale is known from research conducted by Cascadia Research Collective and collaborators. Also sighted as MMZ0001
