"Pōwehi" is a Hawaiian word that means “black hole”, given by Kaimana Barcase, a native Hawaiian and skilled Hawaiian navigator, who says, "The elder who named Pōwehi for a specific black hole is Larry Kimura, a Hawaiian teacher and mentor, a very fitting name for the koholā (humpback whale) with a mostly black fluke.
